Sicilian Wines at ProWein 2014

ProWein 2014 , in Dusseldorf, Germany, has just come to an end.  This leading wine and spirits fair was celebrating 20 years in 2014, while hosting more than 4800 international exhibitors from 50 countries and about 45000 trade visitors.  Italy this year has been the first largest exhibitor nation with approximately 1200 exhibitors from different regions and wineries. Sicilian producers had their share among these numbers, most united under the patronage of Regional Institute of Wines and Oils -IRVOS. The seminar dedicated to Etna and taking place on its slopes has just come to an end. On this beautiful day while Etna was showing the signs of unrest a large group of wine lovers gathered to taste some ten different wines from Etna in the presence of some of the producers. The seminar was conducted by Piero di Giovanni who with humor and simplicity introduced the wine enthusiasts into the wines of a very specific and special territory, i.e that on the slopes of Europe’s greatest volcano. Different labels such as Tasca D’Almerita, Tenuta di Fessina, Quantico, Filippo Grasso, Aitalà, Classe 39, Cottanera, Cantine Russo, Terre Grasso Salina....

‘Contrade dell’Etna’- change of location

‘Contrade dell’Etna’ ,the annual sicilian wine event on Mount Etna created by Andrea Franchetti, Etnean wine producer with his roots in Toscany has been held at his winery in Passopisciaro, contrada Guardiola since 2008. 2014 marks the change of  location. This year’s meeting of wine lovers and all the producers of wine from Etna is going to take place in another winery, not distant from the former one- the winery of Alberto Aiello Graci. It’s the third time wine lovers and buyers meet to learn something new about the wines produced on Etna, one of the world’s most active volcanoes. This seminar conducted by Pietro di Giovanni is dedicated to the white wines of Etna.
