The first sparkling wine Etna DOC!

The first Etna sparkling wine to have obtained the DOC recognition all ready to celebrate New Years Eve of 2013!  It is a single varietal wine-  made entirely of Nerello Mascalese,  in rosè, méthode champenoise. The harvest is that of 2011. The prise de mousse of 20 months, dégorgement December  2013. The result is a brut rosè, with an alcoholic gradation of 12°. The name of the ‘spumante’ is that of the winery which produced it: La Gelsomina, located on the north east slopes of Etna. A young winery owned by Maria Colombo Adalgisa and Alfio Turrisi, producing around 25000 bottles of wine per year of which 1300 of Etna DOC Brut Rosè. Harvest 2013- Quantico

For some Quantico are the headquarters of the FBI Academy in Virginia, the site for training special agents.For me Quantico is my favorite ‘magmatic’ wine -‘wine which speaks to the heart’ as it states on the label, organic, natural; produced on the northern slopes of Etna. It seems that ‘Quantico’ wine has more to do with quantum physics than with special agents. They are experimenting and examining magnetic fields on the vineyard rather they employing fertilizers and other chemicals and certainly they put a great deal of positive energy for the wine to turn out magic. At their fifth harvest now -and the quality of the wines has been a crescendo. Etna Bianco 2012 is swell as much as their Etna Rosso.The number of bottles produced does not exceed 4000 for the white.  Etna Bianco Quantico is a blend of Carricante 70%, Cataratto 10%, Grillo 12% ,characterized by a fresh acidity and a great minerality so typical of Etna’s terroirs.
