The first sparkling wine Etna DOC!
The first Etna sparkling wine to have obtained the DOC recognition all ready to celebrate New Years Eve of 2013! It is a single varietal wine- made entirely of Nerello Mascalese, in rosè, méthode champenoise. The harvest is that of 2011. The prise de mousse of 20 months, dégorgement December 2013. The result is a brut rosè, with an alcoholic gradation of 12°. The name of the ‘spumante’ is that of the winery which produced it: La Gelsomina, located on the north east slopes of Etna. A young winery owned by Maria Colombo Adalgisa and Alfio Turrisi, producing around 25000 bottles of wine per year of which 1300 of Etna DOC Brut Rosè. The aim of the company is to turn all of the production into sparkling wines in the future.
