Synonyms: Catarrattu vrancu
Catarratto – native white grape, grows on Etna but found mainly in the area around Trapani. Probably the most widespread Italian vine. Rarely found used on its own, more often it is blended with other varieties to give more structure and interest to the wine. In the past it was used almost exclusively for Marsala. It is nowadays emerging as an interesting varietal on its own.
