Grecanico Dorato

GRECANICO DORATO is a white grape grown largely in western Sicily, in the province of Trapani although single vineyards can be found all over the island. It probably belongs to the same family as Garganega. Comparable to Sauvignon. As the name suggests the vine was brought to Sicily from Greece and has been growing in Italy for centuries.

Grecanico is part of various DOC either on its own or in blend. Here is the list of DOC’s were the use of this grape is allowed:



Alcamo o Bianco Alcamo – blend of grapes

Contea di Sclafari – either alone or in blend of grapes

Contessa Entellina – blend of grapes

Delia Nivolelli – either alone or in blend of grapes

Menfi – either alone or in blend of grapes

Santa Margherita di Belice – either alone or in blend of grapes
