Malvasia delle Lipari

Synonyms: Malvagia, Marvascia

White indigenous grape cultivated in the province of Messina, in particular on the islands of Salina and Lipari, the Aeolian Islands of volcanic origins and belonging to the region of Sicily where it is used mainly to produce sweet sicilian fortified wines of the same name ( Malvasia delle Lipari DOC ). The vine belonging to the family of  Malvasia was probably brought to the island by Greeks in 580 B.C.
