Minnella bianca

Minella BiancaMinnella Bianca

Sicilian white grape growing mainly in the province of Catania at the foothills of Mount Etna and can be found on older wineyards. The name Minella bianca is almost exclusively found on the island of Sicily with ampelographers believing that the grape is indigenous to the island where its name derives from the sicilian word ‘minna’ meaning breasts and ‘bianca’ meaning ‘white’ as the shape of the grape is slightly elongated. On Etna Giuseppe Benanti has been producing a varietal wine of this grape while it is mostly used in blends with carricante and catarratto , in Etna Bianco DOC wines.
