Rare sicilian indigenous white grape variety used mainly in the provinces of Trapani and Agrigento where it is used mainly in the production of the sicilian fortified wine Marsala or blended with Catarratto to obtain a dry white wines.
Not really suitable for the production of varietal wine which is not inclined to aging, very light. Thus used mainly in blends.
The name and the grape probably takes its origin from the city of Damascus and it is believed to have arrived to Sicily during the Arab domination.
