Wine glass is an important instrument for tasting wine! The shape of the glass and the material it is made of is very important as they can influence our perception of wine. The wine glass is normally made of a base/foot, stem and the bowl while stem-less glasses are also becoming popular. The first sparkling wine Etna DOC!

The first Etna sparkling wine to have obtained the DOC recognition all ready to celebrate New Years Eve of 2013!  It is a single varietal wine-  made entirely of Nerello Mascalese,  in rosè, méthode champenoise. The harvest is that of 2011. The prise de mousse of 20 months, dégorgement December  2013. The result is a brut rosè, with an alcoholic gradation of 12°. The name of the ‘spumante’ is that of the winery which produced it: La Gelsomina, located on the north east slopes of Etna. A young winery owned by Maria Colombo Adalgisa and Alfio Turrisi, producing around 25000 bottles of wine per year of which 1300 of Etna DOC Brut Rosè....

    Since 8 Dec 2013 a new guide by Fabrizio Carrera and Gianni Giardina  ‘Wines of Sicily 2014‘ can be purchased from newsagents’ together with ‘Giornale di Sicilia’  for just 5 euroes. 150 wineries and some 650 labels of which 50 have been awarded 5 stars! The award-giving ceremony took place in   Grand Hotel Et Des Palmes, in Palermo on 7 Dec 2013. 3 sparkling wines, 11 whites, 26 reds and 10 fortified wines among the winners.
